ALL ABOUT HISTORY OF COMPUTER

                HISTORY OF COMPUTER

The history of computers can be traced back to the early 19th century, when Charles Babbage designed the Difference Engine and Analytical Engine. These machines were mechanical computers that could perform complex calculations. However, they were never fully built due to technological limitations.

The first electronic computer was the Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer (ENIAC), which was built in 1946. ENIAC was a massive machine that weighed over 30 tons and contained over 18,000 vacuum tubes. It was used for military purposes, such as calculating ballistic trajectories.

In the following decades, computers became smaller, faster, and more affordable. The invention of the transistor in 1947 and the integrated circuit in 1958 played a major role in this miniaturization.

The 1960s saw the development of minicomputers and mainframes. Minicomputers were smaller and less expensive than mainframes, making them more accessible to businesses and universities. Mainframes were still used for large-scale computing, such as scientific research and business data processing.

The 1970s saw the introduction of the personal computer (PC). The first commercially successful PC was the Apple II, which was released in 1977. The PC revolutionized the way people worked and played.

In the 1980s, PCs became even more popular. The IBM PC, which was released in 1981, became the de facto standard for business PCs. Microsoft Windows, which was released in 1985, made PCs easier to use.

The 1990s saw the rise of the internet and the World Wide Web. PCs became essential tools for accessing information and communicating with others online.

In the 21st century, computers have become even more ubiquitous. They are now used in all aspects of our lives, from work to school to entertainment. Smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices have made computing even more accessible.

Today, computers are more powerful and affordable than ever before. They are used in a wide range of applications, including science, engineering, medicine, business, education, and entertainment.

The following are some of the key milestones in the history of computers:

·                                 1822: Charles Babbage designs the Difference Engine, a mechanical computer that could perform complex calculations.

·                                 1830: Babbage designs the Analytical Engine, a general-purpose computer that could be programmed to perform any mathematical operation.

·                                 1946: The Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer (ENIAC) is built. ENIAC is the first electronic computer, but it is massive and expensive.

·                                 1947: The transistor is invented. Transistors are smaller and more reliable than vacuum tubes, and they revolutionize the electronics industry.

·                                 1958: The integrated circuit (IC) is invented. ICs contain multiple transistors on a single chip, and they make computers even smaller and more affordable.

·                                 1964: The IBM System/360 is released. The System/360 is a family of computers that can be configured for a wide range of applications.

·                                 1971: The Intel 4004 is released. The 4004 is the first microprocessor, and it makes it possible to build powerful computers on a single chip.

·                                 1977: The Apple II is released. The Apple II is the first commercially successful personal computer.

·                                 1981: The IBM PC is released. The IBM PC becomes the de facto standard for business PCs.

·                                 1985: Microsoft Windows is released. Windows makes PCs easier to use by providing a graphical user interface.

·                                 1991: The World Wide Web is launched. The web makes it possible to access information and communicate with others online.

·                                 1993: The Mosaic web browser is released. Mosaic is the first popular web browser, and it makes the web more accessible to users.

·                                 2007: The iPhone is released. The iPhone is a smartphone that combines a mobile phone, a web browser, and a media player.

·                                 2010: The iPad is released. The iPad is a tablet computer that is larger than a smartphone but smaller than a laptop.

Computers have come a long way since the days of the ENIAC. Today, they are powerful and affordable tools that are used by people all over the world.
